Aunt Downi Came for a Visit

We were so lucky to have Devan's sister Downi come for a visit last week and meet Jamis for the first time. We had so much fun catching up and playing. Lots of beach time, shopping, and even a trip to Asheville for some hiking.

A Royal chariot for our little Prince.

And this is how I got Giardia.

Jamis thinks he knows how to walk all by himself. He won't sit down and even pushes your hands away. Mr. Independent.

Born to live in the outdoors.

FEED ME!!! All this mountain playing makes me hungry.

Stuff it in there.

I love waterfalls.

Summer Fun

Summer would not be summer without lots of water and Jamis has caught on to that rather quickly. We spend most of the day at either the pool or the beach. At first Jamis didn't know what to think of his new baby pool.

That didn't last long though.

Splashing is just the best thing EVER!!! So much energy and determination.

The pool may be fun, but nothing is better than the beach. Jamis loves standing in the waves and most of all eating the sand. Daddy has even begun the surf lessons.

Month 7 was a special time for Jamis. He went to his first fireworks show and didn't even get scared.
On Sunday July 5, we were able to bless him at church. I was so proud of him. He wasn't quite sure what to think of all those men standing around him or what the microphone was all about, but he did so good. He was given his name and blessed to have a long and healthy life, to serve his Heavenly Father, and to continue to be a healer of broken hearts. What a prized moment for Devan and I. After church we had a reception at our house with all our neighbors and friends and way too much food. What a handsome little devil.

7 months has also been the age of independence. Jamis has perfected the art of the army crawl. We're working on getting those legs going, but I'm not sure how ready I am for him to be so mobile. He is also under the illusion that he doesn't have to take naps or go to bed at all really. I have finally learned what a sleep deprived motherhood is all about. Sleep moments are now picture worthy moments.

It has also been the month for major teething. We currently have 4 teeth (the front bottom 2 and his 2 incisors) and 2 more are visible (his two front teeth). I'm hoping that his two front teeth don't come in until after Halloween because he is the perfect vampire right now. Soooo cute.

May Madness

Never before have I been so happy to have a month over. Life went from busy to complete chaos before we knew it. This past week has surely ended things with a bang (Quite literally too I might add).
  • Tuesday and Wednesday we drove down to South Carolina so Devan could take Step 3 (the last part of the US Medical Licensing exam). Jamis and I had a grand time exploring the quaint town of Rock Hill while Dev pounded through the days of testing. We'll be waiting in anticipation for the next few weeks to get the results back, but what a relief to have that over with.
  • Thursday Devan was on call (goes to work at 4 am and gets off around noon the following day). I spent the day getting the car fixed up (oil change, tires rotated.... the works) while my girlfriend took Jamis for his first sleep over. Jamis was in heaven, mommy not so much. I've only left Jamis once before and only made it two hours before having to rush home to him. This time he was gone for nearly 30 hours. I felt completely naked without that little bug on my hip. He seemed to not even know I was gone though. Didn't sleep much that night without him.
  • 3am Friday morning (reason for said baby sleepover) I picked Devan up from work (thanks to a wonderful fellow resident who came in early to work to cover for him) to drive to Durham so he could have surgery (don't worry Devan is fine and there's nothing to be worried about). Despite getting lost on the way to the surgery center, everything went great....that is until we got back to Wilmington. On our way into town I was just driving down the road, minding my own business, when all of a sudden there's a van in my lane. BAM!!!!!! We hit. Stunned I pull over to the side of the road. Seconds later there is this big guy in a wife beater hitting my car windows screaming at us. I've never locked the doors so fast. Is this really happening or is my sleep deprived diet Coke rush finally getting to me. After about 20 minutes of watching the passing traffic run over pieces of my car, the Highway patrol finally showed up. Turns out our little country bumpkin friend was at the stop sign to our right and wanted to turn left to get into the opposite lane of traffic. Well she looked to her right and took off, forgetting to look to her left and failing to see that I was right there. Thankfully her crazed son cooled down, no one was hurt, and most of all that Jamis was not in the car. She was ticketed, our car was towed away, and now we have a rental for the next 25 days until our car is fixed. I just have to laugh when I think of it all.

  • Saturday in between dealing with Insurance companies, a sore husband, organizing my upcoming absence in Primary, and reminding Jamis he had a mommy, I had to make a 5 tiered cake for a wedding Sunday morning. Having never made a cake this large plus with the task of driving it an hour away, getting it on a boat, getting it off a boat, and getting it on and off a golf cart to get it to its island event was, shall we say, just a tad bit stressful. Thankfully there were no catastrophes. Not my best piece of work, but the Bride was happy and there wasn't a crumb left over.

Jamis loved that the wedding adventure meant his first boat ride. He was fascinated with the boats wake.

  • After the wedding Sunday, we all took a deep breath and a long nap.

There is always a calm after the storm and thankfully that is what June has been so far. Jamis is still growing up way to fast. 17 lbs of pure joy. With TWO teeth now, he is beginning to eat us out of house and home. Bananas, mangos, carrots, peas, green beans, apples, he loves it all. Still his absolute favorite though is broccoli. Anytime we eat something he starts drooling and smacking his lips. It cracks me up every time. His new thing is feeding himself. The bottle he handles pretty well, but we still have a way to go with the spoon. He has also discovered that he can be mobile. We're not crawling yet, but getting way to close. Much like a snake, or even a fish out of water, Jamis sets his sights on something (usually a way cool toy) and maneuvers over to it. What a determined little guy.

Look at me sitting up all by myself.

If you look really close, you can see me teeth. CHEESE!!!

Every little boy truly does need a dog. Jamis is fascinated by dogs, especially Max. He squeals every time he sees him. Thankfully Max is a great sport with all the pulls and tugs of a 6 month old.

Every morning I can't wait to see what position Jamis is in. He never fails to give me a good laugh. This kid is all over the place.

He always wakes up with a smile though. I wasn't joking when I said I have the best baby in the world.
He already knows how to work the camera. This is the picture taken for my Mommies Day present. It totally captured his little personality.

OK, I promise I'm almost done with the baby bragging.

Yesterday we bought Jamis his first set of wheels. A little All-Terrain action. I'm not sure if he had more fun getting the rides or if Devan and I did giving the rides.

He sat up, held on, and laughed through the entire tour of the neighborhood. I think we found a winner.

Tonight the boys dressed alike for the concert in the park. What a Father/Son team these two have become.

Where does the time go

After much anticipation......the Griners are BACK!!!! Though I'm not sure were it has gone, the past month has been quite the blurr. There's a little recap:
  • Jamis continues to grow and just when I don't think he can possibly be any cuter, he goes and learns something new. He is 5 1/2 months old now and has realized that he has an opinion and learns everyday how to express it more. He can now roll over BOTH ways and as a Mommies Day present to me he cut his first tooth. What a doll baby.
  • Devan planted some really cool bamboo trees in our back yard. He "borrowed" them from the forest by our house and they add quite the exotic touch to our back yard.
  • I was called as Primary President in our ward two weeks ago (this is really what is to blame with the lack of Blogging recently) and surprisingly am still alive. I had no idea what a job I was undertaking. Be sure to give your Primary President a hug next week.
  • Earlier this week my dad broke BOTH hands. How could this be you ask? Well, let me illustrate it for you. Elderly people have fragile bones. Dirt Bike racing is considered a dangerous sport. Combine the two and ..... (sorry for calling you Elderly dad, but you aren't such a young buck anymore, you are a grandpa these days :) ). Thankfully he is doing well. He that them both plated today and should be back to work in no time (thankfully since he is a SURGEON and hands are a little important in that field, never mind the fact that he is supposed to start his new practice in 3 weeks) (there I think I got my frustration out on that subject, moving on)
  • Devan has successfully recruited the entire neighborhood in an attempt to over through the government. The boys meet on a regular basis for a friendly game of "war" with airsoft guns. No major casualties yet to report.
  • My little sister, Rachael, is Prego!!! She is due Dec 26th and despite "the suckiest birthday in the world" (as she put it) the baby is doing well and all are excited.
  • I won the lottery today too, the St. George Marathon Lottery that is. On Oct. 3 I will be joining my mom, sister-in-law, friend, and four of my aunts for the race. 26.2, prepared to be conquered.
  • Lastly and most importantly, I had my first Mother's Day ever. My boys made it the best day possible. I have never had a time in my life were I was more happy. I LOVE being a mom and I feel so blessed to be mom to the best little guy in the world. On top of that I even get to be the mother of Devan Griner's kid. How cool is that. My boys treated me like a princess all day. They arranged for us to have pro photos done this week, wrote me the sweetest love letter ever, and iced me with the a beautiful birthstone necklace. I'm the luckiest woman in the world.

And of course more Jamis pics...
